The infant Krishna — tiny, barely able to sit up — began to nurse. But as He nursed, He drew not just the milk but Putna’s entire life-force along with it! Putna screamed and tried to pull away — she couldn’t. She expanded into her real terrifying form, crashed through the forests of Braj, and fell. She was gone.
Then something nobody expected happened. The enormous body of Putna — this demoness who came to poison the Lord — began to emit a beautiful divine fragrance. The fragrance of liberation! The people of Braj used the wood of her body as fuel, and the smoke carried that sacred fragrance across all of Braj, purifying everything.
Putna came to kill Krishna. She received the liberation of a mother. Prabhu gave her the status of His wet-nurse in the divine realm.
