Goodnight, Thakorji!

Three bedtime stories from Vrindavan โ€” for the quietest, coziest time of day

๐ŸŒ™ "When YOU fall asleep thinking of Him, He watches over your dreams."

Are you all tucked in? ๐ŸŒŸ Tonight we have three very special bedtime stories. They all come from the real world of Thakorji โ€” the world of Vrindavan, where Krishna lives, plays, eats butter, and yes โ€” goes to sleep too, just like you!

In Pushtimarg, the time just before sleep is called Sayan. The lights go low. The day is done. And in Thakorji's Haveli at Nathdwara, the priests softly sing a lullaby to help Him rest. Tonight, these stories are your lullaby from Thakorji. ๐Ÿ’š

How Thakorji Goes to Sleep at the Haveli The sacred Sayan seva every night at Nathdwara

๐ŸŒธ The Sayan Ritual

Every night at the great Haveli at Nathdwara, the priests remove Thakorji's beautiful crown, His necklace of flowers, and His golden clothes. They offer Him warm milk and a small sweet. They arrange a soft bed of fresh flower petals. And then โ€” very softly, so softly that even the birds don't wake โ€” they sing Him a lullaby called a Lori. And Thakorji's eyes grow heavy... and He sleeps. All of Vrindavan grows quiet and full of stars. ๐ŸŒŸ

The Secret of Sayan Time: The moment just before sleep is when your heart is most open and soft. Thakorji loves to slip into that soft place and leave you a gift โ€” maybe a feeling of peace, maybe a happy dream, maybe just a warm glow when you wake up tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’š

Bedtime Story One โ€” The Cow Who Found a Secret How small acts of love matter more than we think

๐Ÿ„
The Cow Who Found a Secret
How Dhoomar showed us that small acts of love reach Thakorji's heart

Once, on the big holy mountain of Giriraj Govardhan, there lived a very special cow named Dhoomar. Every single afternoon, while all the other cows enjoyed their day, Dhoomar would quietly walk away from the herd โ€” all by herself โ€” to a special rocky spot. And there, she would stand perfectly still... and her milk would flow. All on its own. Onto a beautiful golden arm slowly appearing from inside the rock.

That arm belonged to Lord Shreenathji โ€” sleeping inside the mountain, waiting to come out when the world was ready! For years, Dhoomar did this. Every single day. Nobody told her to. Nobody was watching. She just knew โ€” in her heart โ€” that someone wonderful was there. And she gave the most precious thing she had: her own milk.

One day, her owner Saddu Pande followed her. And when he saw what she was doing, he fell to his knees โ€” because Dhoomar had been nourishing Thakorji all along, with her small, daily act of love. ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ’ก What Thakorji is Teaching You Tonight: Your "Jai Shri Krishna" in the morning, your little prayer at night โ€” these are Dhoomar's milk. Thakorji sees every single one, even when nobody else does.
๐ŸŒ™ Your Bedtime Practice: Close your eyes. Imagine you are Dhoomar, walking up the mountain in the golden afternoon light. You have one gift โ€” your love. Offer it now, in your heart, to Thakorji. Whisper softly: "I love You, Thakorji. This is my milk for tonight."

Bedtime Story Two โ€” The Lord's Favourite Rattle The Jhunjhuna that helped Thakorji fall asleep

๐Ÿ””
The Lord's Favourite Rattle
The silver Jhunjhuna โ€” and how Thakorji fell asleep

One evening at the great Haveli, it was time for Thakorji to go to sleep. The priests had arranged the softest bed of rose petals you ever saw. But Lalan โ€” that is the loving name for baby Thakorji โ€” did not want to sleep! He was looking around with big, bright eyes. He wanted to play just a little bit more!

The priest smiled. He knew exactly what to do. He picked up a small, shiny silver rattle called a Jhunjhuna. He shook it very gently โ€” jhun-jhun, jhun-jhun โ€” and the sound was the sweetest, softest sound in the whole world. Like a tiny bell mixed with a heartbeat.

Lalan's eyes followed the rattle. Then slowly โ€” slowly โ€” His little hand reached out and grabbed it. Jhun... jhun... jhun... The sound got slower. And softer. And Lalan's eyes got heavier and heavier. And then โ€” with the Jhunjhuna still in His hand, a tiny smile on His face โ€” He fell fast asleep. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ’ก What Thakorji is Teaching You Tonight: When YOU feel restless at bedtime โ€” when your brain is still buzzing with the day โ€” remember the Jhunjhuna! Gentle, rhythmic sounds calm even Thakorji's restless heart. You can do the same.
๐ŸŒ™ Your Bedtime Practice: Breathe in slowly... and as you breathe out, say softly: "Shri... Kri... shna." In. Out. "Shri... Kri... shna." Three times. Let each word be like the jhun-jhun of the rattle. Feel your body getting heavier and softer with each breath.

Bedtime Story Three โ€” The Ball That Came Back Why Thakorji is always holding the reins

โšฝ
The Ball That Came Back
The Gend-Chadi game โ€” and why nothing is ever truly lost

One golden evening in Vrindavan, just before the fireflies came out, Krishna was playing with His friends. They had a Gend (a round, bouncy ball) and a Chadi (like a cricket bat). The game was SO much fun โ€” shouts and laughs and running and jumping! Krishna loved it.

Then โ€” CRACK! Someone hit the Gend too hard. Up it went. And up. And UP โ€” past the mango trees, past the birds, past the clouds! It seemed to disappear into the sky completely. Everyone stopped. "The ball is gone!" said one friend. "We will never get it back." They looked very sad.

But Krishna just laughed. He was not worried at all. He raised His little Chadi and tapped the air once โ€” just once, very gently. And the most amazing thing happened. The ball slowly curved in a great big arc across the sky... and came PERFECTLY down... right into Krishna's open hand.

"See?" He said, with a big smile. "Nothing is ever truly lost when I am playing the game with you. Things might fly away for a moment. But they always come back to the right place. Because I am the one holding the stick." ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’ก What Thakorji is Teaching You Tonight: Sometimes things in your day go "out of bounds" โ€” something went wrong, you had a hard day. But Thakorji is always holding the Chadi. Nothing is ever truly lost when He is playing on your team.
๐ŸŒ™ Your Bedtime Practice: Think of ONE thing from today that felt hard or "out of bounds." Now imagine handing it to Thakorji โ€” like passing the ball to your teammate. Say: "Thakorji, You hold this one. I trust You." Then let it go. Breathe out. And sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด

The Bedtime ABC Three minutes every night โ€” and your heart will feel cosy and safe

A
Acknowledge โ€” Say Thank You!

Think of THREE things that went well today. Say them in your heart: "Thank You, Thakorji, for my food. Thank You for my family. Thank You for that funny thing that happened!" Even one thank-you is enough. ๐Ÿ™

B
Believe โ€” Let It Go!

Think of anything heavy or hard from today. Imagine putting it in a big golden bowl and offering it to Thakorji. Say: "Thakorji, I give this to You. You hold it tonight. I am going to rest." Like Dhoomar giving her milk โ€” just give it! ๐ŸŒ™

C
Connect โ€” Say His Name!

Say this three times, very slowly and softly, like the Jhunjhuna's sound: "Shri Krishna Sharanam Mama." It means: "Shri Krishna, You are my safe place." Three times... and then sleep. ๐Ÿ’š

When you sleep after the ABC, Thakorji watches over your dreams โ€” just as Yashoda watches over the sleeping Lord at the Haveli every night. Goodnight is never really goodbye. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒ™

Goodnight โ€” Thakorji is Watching!

You heard three stories tonight: Dhoomar who gave her milk every day. The Jhunjhuna whose gentle sound helped the Lord sleep. And the ball that flew away โ€” and came perfectly back into Thakorji's hand.

Every night you go to sleep thinking of Thakorji, He stays awake watching over you. Just like Yashoda watches over Him. ๐Ÿ’š

Sweet dreams from Vrindavan!
